Consultation has concluded
Council is aware of public safety concerns at Waters Road, Naremburn where there are several unauthorised bridges over the existing stormwater channel.
Members of the public may be interacting with flood waters, which poses significant safety risks to pedestrians and vehicles during flood events.
Consequently, Council has engaged a consultant to review the existing flood risk and hazard, and identify necessary safety improvements to reduce the safety risks to acceptable levels.
Key safety measures recommended include:
The removal of unauthorised bridges to prevent unsafe access to the stormwater channel.
The installation of safety fencing along the channel adjacent to Waters Road while ensuring that approved vehicular access over designated bridges is maintained.
A review of existing flood signage to ensure that it clearly communicates the dangers of interacting with floodwaters, both for pedestrians and vehicles.
Council has the budget available to undertake the measures in the 24/25FY works program which are proposed to occur prior to June 30 2025.
The feedback period is from Tuesday 4 February 2025 to Tuesday 25 February 2025.
