Northbridge Streetscape Upgrade

Council adopted the Northbridge Local Centre Public Domain Plan as the primary design guide for all future public domain projects in the Northbridge Local Centre and endorsed the commencement of detailed design and documentation for Stage 1 of the Plan.

Background

The Northbridge Local Centre Public Domain Plan develops a long term vision for the public domain areas of Northbridge Local Centre and the shops at the intersection of Woonona Road and Sailors Bay Road.

The plan builds on several existing strategies and plans, including the Draft Willoughby Local Centres Strategy to 2036 and previous traffic studies completed in the Centre. The Plan incorporates community feedback received through extensive consultation for both the Local Centre Strategy and predesign consultation completed for the Plan, which included two co-design workshops with the community in February 2020.

The Northbridge Local Centre Public Domain Plan will guide all future public domain projects in Northbridge Local Centre and the shops at the intersection of Woonona Road and Sailors Bay Road, including constructing a new plaza area at the intersection of Bellambi Road and Sailors Bay Road.

Northbridge Local Centre Upgrade

Focused on Sailors Bay Road between Strathallan Avenue and Euroka Street, the upgrade will involve footpath widening and pavement upgrades, improved pedestrian access and crossings, new planting beds and street trees and installation of new street furniture. Works are planned to start in late 2021 and be completed mid-2022

Background

A feedback summary of outputs from the two streetscape co-design workshops held in February 2020 has been collated by independent consultation specialist consultants, Engage 2, and can be found in the supporting documents section on this page.

This follows feedback received earlier this year in the Local Centre planning scenarios and the Indicative Master Plan for Northbridge that may include changing rules for development.
