Draft Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan
Consultation has concluded
Between 11 September and 2 October 2023, Council sought feedback for the Draft Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan.
At its 11 December 2023 meeting, Council adopted the Reflect 2023 Reconciliation Action Plan and submit the document to Reconciliation Australia for final endorsement. In April 2024, Reconciliation Australia formally endorsed Council's Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. The final document can be viewed in the Document Library on this page.
Willoughby City Council developed a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in collaboration with Reconciliation Australia, the lead body for Reconciliation in Australia.
Reconciliation: Reconciliation is about strengthening the relationships between First Nations People and the wider community, for the benefit of all of us as Australians.
In March 2023, Council undertook community consultation through workshops and the Have Your Say platform for developing the Reconciliation Action Plan for Willoughby City Council. We incorporated the feedback from the consultation into the draft RAP.
Council’s RAP will be a strategic document that will provide a framework for inclusion as well as contributing towards local and national reconciliation. The RAP will act as a guide, preparing our organisation for future reconciliation initiatives.
A “Reflect” RAP was selected to provide Willoughby City Council with a foundational first step on our formal reconciliation journey. A Reflect RAP is an opportunity to look at internal capacity, processes, and resources, and sets out the steps which prepare an organisation for reconciliation initiatives in future RAPs.
We encourage involvement and collaboration of First Nations community members, and other stakeholders in the process of development of the RAP.
The RAP development plan will have a number of phases with a number of opportunities to hear feedback and ideas from our community.
The consultation period provided an opportunity for the community to share their ideas on how we can acknowledge and promote Gamaragal history, culture and protocols of country and First Nations People who live within the area.
