Flood Risk Management Committee – Expression of Interest for Community Representatives

Council is inviting community members to express interest in joining the Flood Risk Management Committee for the Willoughby Local Government Area.

The Committee plays a key role in advising Council on flood risk management issues, contributing ideas, expertise, and local knowledge to develop plans and studies that address current, future, and ongoing flood risks.

Six (6) Community representatives will be appointed and they will be assessed in accordance with the following criteria:

1. Ability to form a link between the Committee and the local population in the flood prone area.

2. Awareness of the different forms of flooding and flood behaviour ranging from minor to extreme floods.

3. Awareness of the principal issues relating to development on flood prone land.

4. Ability to provide historical advice on local problems and perceived solutions in Willoughby.

5. Knowledge and experience relevant to the Committee Charter.

6. Awareness of risk management principles.

7. Awareness of implications of matters which may have impacts on the local community.

8. Ability to facilitate formal representations to the Committee on behalf of the public.

9. Preparedness to attend and actively participate in regular meetings until an updated Flood Risk Management Plan is prepared and adopted by the Committee.

The Committee includes both community members and technical experts, working together to develop solutions that consider social, economic, and environmental impacts.

Interested individuals should have an understanding of flood risks, risk management, and the impacts on local communities. The Committee will advise on all future flood studies undertaken by Council for the current Council term.

Council is currently progressing the Scotts Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan with the first meeting scheduled for April 2025.

Committee members must adhere to the Council-endorsed Committee Charter available on the right side of the page.


The expression of interest period is from Thursday 13 to Thursday 27 March 2025.
