Share your thoughts about the renaming of Bicentennial Reserve, Willoughby.
At the Council Meeting held 27 May 2024, Council resolved to acknowledge the passing of former Mayor Mr Noel Reidy OAM and to formally recognise Mr Reidy’s significant achievements and contributions to the Willoughby community in an appropriate way.
Following a review of a number of options, we would now like to seek feedback on a proposal to rename Bicentennial Reserve located on Small Street, Willoughby to “Noel Reidy Reserve” after the late Noel Reidy.
Noel Reidy was a long serving Mayor between 1974-1980 and 1982-1991, who passed away on 15 May 2024. During his time on Council Mr Reidy was the driving force behind a number of major projects including the enlargement of Chatswood’s CBD, construction of the bus/rail interchange, the opening of Bicentennial Reserve, the Willoughby Leisure Centre, the Zenith Theatre, the Dougherty Apartments aged care housing complex, and the creation of Chatswood Mall.
For more information on Noel Reidy's contributions and a map showing the extent of Bicentennial Reserve, please click on the Documents tab on the right.
Your feedback on this proposal will inform if it is appropriate for Council to seek approval from the Geographical Names Board for the name of the reserve to be changed.
Please leave your comments in the survey below by 11.59pm Sunday 11 May 2025.
